Christianity and Islam are the largest religions in the world and share some creedal essence and origin. Islam as a faith has six pillars known as the articles of faith and there are:

1-Belief in Allah as the one and only true God

2-  Belief in angels

 3-Belief in the holy books

4- Belief in the Prophets and Messengers e.g. Adam, Ibrahim (Abraham), Musa (Moses), Dawud (David), Isah (Jesus). Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the final prophet.

5- Belief in the Day of Judgment. The day when the life of every human being will be assessed to decide whether they go to heaven or hell.

6-  Belief in Predestination and decrees of Allah. That Allah has the knowlege of all that will happen. Muslims believe that this doesn't stop human beings making free choices.

The above articles of faith are mentioned in the Glorious separately at different places, however, in the tradition known as the hadith of Jibreel (peace be upon him), they are mentioned together. It is recorded in Sahih Muslim on the authority of Umar Ibn AL-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) the arc-Angel Jibree (Gabrael) came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and asked: “ “Tell me about Imaan faith). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, “It is to believe in Allah; His Angels; His Books; His Messengers; the Last Day; and in destiny—its good and bad.” Jibreel (peace be upon him) verified he spoke the truth. (Muslim)

These same artciles of faith are found in the Books of Christianity. On the belief in the Oneness of Allah , the Bible confirms that, Allah is the Creator of man. In Genesis 1:27, we read: “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.’

There is also the confirmation that Allah is the lord and Deity worthy worship as found in Genesis 2:4” This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created, when the Lord God made the earth and the heavens.” In New Testament , Jesus Christ the son of Mary (peace be upon him) is reported of confirming the believe in the oneness of Allah and He Alone deserve to be worshiped as the Lord, as found in Mathew chapter 4 verse 10: it reads: “Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only” (Mathew:4:10-NIV)

Thus the article of the believe in Allah as found in Islam is also an article of believe in the Christian faith. The discrepancy between shall be discussed in the later part of this article In Sha Allah.

As for the second article of faith in Islam; that which is to believe in the existence of the Angels and that they are the honorable servants of Allah created from light, they worship Allah without choice unlike humans. They do not disobey Allah’s commandments. This article is also mentioned in the Christian faith both in the Old Testament and in the New Testament. In the story of Abraham , Sarah and the then slave of Sarah; Hajar, there was a mentioned of an angel appearing before Hagar comforting her and promising her of a child. It read as follows:

The angel of the Lord found Hagar near a spring in the desert; it was the spring that is beside the road to Shur. 8 And he said, “Hagar, slave of Sarai, where have you come from, and where are you going?”

I’m running away from my mistress Sarai,” she answered.

9 Then the angel of the Lord told her, “Go back to your mistress and submit to her.” 10 The angel added, “I will increase your descendants so much that they will be too numerous to count.”

11 The angel of the Lord also said to her:

You are now pregnant and you will give birth to a son. You shall name him Ishmael, for the Lord has heard of your misery.”

Also in the New Testament we read the following: “But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.” Thus, the Islamic article of faith in the existence of the angels is a shared creedal issue between Islam and Christianity.

About the believe in the divine scriptures revealed by Allah Almighty for the guidance of humanity, it is also mentioned in the books of Christianity. For instance, in the Old Testament, it is mentioned that Allah revealed some books to Prophet Musa (Moses) (peace be upon him), it thus read:

The Lord said to Moses، “Come up to me on the mountain and stay here, and I will give you the tablets of stone with the law and commandments I have written for their instruction.” (Exodus:24:12-NIV)

the new Testament mentioned the famous story of Jesus’ encounter with the devil and how he-peace be upon him-refuted all the requests of the devil by referring to the laws of Allah in the previous scriptures. Mathew 4: 3-10 presents this dialogue as follows:

The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”

4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’[a]

5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. 6 “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written:

“‘He will command his angels concerning you,

and they will lift you up in their hands,

so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’[b]

7 Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’[c]

8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9 “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”

10 Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’[d]

With the believe in Allah’s Prophets and Messengers, there are ample evidences in both the Old Testament and New Testament just like all other articles discussed above. The Old Testament made mentioned of Prophets and Messengers came before Prophet Musa (Moses-peace be upon him). it said about Prophet Nuh (Noah-peace be upon him):

These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations، and Noah walked with God. (Genesis:6:9-KJB)

Also in Genesis 17:3-5, the Bible talked about Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham-peace be upon him) saying:

Abram fell facedown، and God said to him, 4 “As for me, this is my covenant with you: You will be the father of many nations. 5 No longer will you be called Abram[a]; your name will be Abraham,[b] for I have made you a father of many nations.”

The New Testament also mentioned these Prophets and Messengers, for instance in Mathew 1:17, the bible says:

Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Messiah.”-NIV

The believe in the Judgment Day , accountability and the reward of people with Paradise and Hell depending on their deeds are all mentioned in the Bible both old and New testaments  in Malachi 4:5-6 and Mathew: 12:36 respectively.

the same way the concept in the decree and Predestinations of Allah ; which is the sixth article of faith in Islam, is mentioned in the Bible in the story of Prophet Ayyub (Job) peace be upon him mentioned in Job:1:18-22)

After detailing the above proofs from Christian sources depicting that it shares with Islam the same essence of faith, there remain the concept of “Trinity” which depicts  a Triune God or  the Three-in-One God, which is completely contrary to the concept of God (Allah) in Islam and even the real words of Jesus and all Prophets and Messengers (peace be upon them all). Trinity is a controversial doctrine; many Christians admit they do not understand it, while many more Christians do not understand it but think they do.

In fact, although they would be horrified to hear it, many Christians sometimes behave as if they believe in three Gods and at other times as if they believe in one. It comes in its awake the doctrine of the divinity of Jesus Christ and the Divine Son-ship of Jesus Christ making the concept of God difficult for even Christian themselves to explain. The Glorious Qur’an; which is the last of the divine scriptures revealed to the last Prophet and Messenger; the holy Prophet Muhammad-peace be upon-came to call Christians to refrain from believing in the Trinity as it is not part of the believe in God Propagated by His Prophets and Messengers from Noah, Abraham, Moses and even Jesus himself in his own words as seen above. The holy Qur’an declared:

They disbelieve those who say, "God is the Messiah the son of Mary." But the Messiah himself said, "O Children of Israel, worship God, my Lord and your Lord. Whoever associates others with God, God has forbidden him Paradise, and his dwelling is the Fire. The wrongdoers have no saviors." They disbelieve those who say, "God is the third of three." But there is no deity except the One God. If they do not refrain from what they say, a painful torment will befall those among them who disbelieve. Will they not repent to God and ask His forgiveness? God is Forgiving and Merciful. (Al-Maa’ida:72-74)

It implores them to desist from saying such a blasphemy:

O People of the Scripture! Do not exaggerate in your religion, and do not say about God except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, is the Messenger of God, and His Word that He conveyed to Mary, and a Spirit from Him. So believe in God and His messengers, and do not say, "Three." Refrain-it is better for you. God is only one God. Glory be to Him-that He should have a son. To Him belongs everything in the heavens and the earth, and God is a sufficient Protector.” (An-Nisaa’:171)
