Prayer Time

  |      |

The pious predecessors used to strive towards completing good deeds and perfecting them, then afterwards they become concern of its acceptance, and were afraid of its rejection. They are those Allah praised with His words:

وَٱلَّذِينَ يُؤْتُونَ مَآ ءَاتَوا۟ وَّقُلُوبُهُمْ وَجِلَةٌ أَنَّهُمْ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ رَٰجِعُونَ

And those who give what they give, while their hearts quake, knowing that to their Lord they will return.” (Al-Mu’minoon:70)

On authority of Aesha (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: “Oh Messenger of Allah! (وَٱلَّذِينَ يُؤْتُونَ مَآ ءَاتَوا۟ وَّقُلُوبُهُمْ وَجِلَةٌ أَنَّهُمْ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ رَٰجِعُونَ)And those who give what they give, while their hearts quake…” are they those who commit adultery, steals, drinks alcohol and at the same time fears Allah? he said: “ no oh daughter of the truthful, rather, they are those who pray, and fast and give out charity and (on top of that) are afraid that it would not be accepted of them” (authentic hadith reported by Ahmad, At-Tirmidhi and Ibn Abi Hatim)

Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: be more concern of the acceptance of deeds than your concern of doing them, don’t you listen to the words of Allah:

إِنَّمَا يَتَقَبَّلُ ٱللَّهُ مِنَ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ

“"God accepts only from the righteous."..(Al-Maa’ida:27)

Fudaala Ibn Ubaid said: “ if I know that Allah accepted from me an act equal in weight to the Mustard seed, it would be more pleasing to me than the whole world and whatever it contains been given to me because Allah said:

إِنَّمَا يَتَقَبَّلُ ٱللَّهُ مِنَ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ

“"God accepts only from the righteous."..(Al-Maa’ida:27)

Among the means that grant acceptance and the proofs of Allah’s aid is: following up a good deed with a good one, perseverance on obedience, abstinence from disobedience. Some predecessors said: “Among the punishment of an evil deed is doing evil deed after it, and from among the rewards of good deeds is (doing) a good deed afterwards.

Oh you who  used to attend the Mosques, and used to populate the houses of Allah with different types of zikr (supplications) and prayers, be firm on the path and steadfast on hard work,  preserve the gatherings and the congregations (five daily prayers)  and beware not to be part of those about whom Allah said:

وَإِذَا قَامُوٓا۟ إِلَى ٱلصَّلَوٰةِ قَامُوا۟ كُسَالَىٰ يُرَآءُونَ ٱلنَّاسَ وَلَا يَذْكُرُونَ ٱللَّهَ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا

And when they stand for prayer, they stand lazily, showing off in front of people, and remembering God only a little.” (An-Nisaa:142)

Oh you the one aided to observe the night prayer, do not deprive yourself of this reward for the rest of the year. Allah legitimated the night prayer throughout the whole year for you in all nights, and promised you enormous reward on that.

The Prophet –may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him-was asked about the best prayers after the obligatory one and he said: “the night prayer” (Muslim). Bukhari and Muslim both reported on the authority of Abdulla Ibn Amr Ibn Al-Aas –may Allah be pleased with them both-that the messenger of Allah said: “ oh Abdullah,  do not be like such who used to pray at night and then abandons the night prayer”.

Allah praised the believers with His saying:

تَتَجَافَىٰ جُنُوبُهُمْ عَنِ ٱلْمَضَاجِعِ يَدْعُونَ رَبَّهُمْ خَوْفًا وَطَمَعًا

“Their sides shun their beds, as they pray to their Lord, out of reverence and hope; (sajda:17)

They used to sleep a little at night.” (Az-Zaariyaat:17)

Be keen towards the night prayer even if you will do witr with three raka’at or even with one rak’at. The holy Prophet peace be upon him says:

“Oh people of the Qur’an do witr (an odd numbered unit of prayer at night)  for Allah is odd and He love odd numbered acts.” (by Abu Daawud and At-tirmidhi).

Imam Ahmad (may Allah’s mercy be upon him) said: “whoever abandons witr for three consecutive nights is an evil person and his testimony or witness shall not be accepted”

Oh you who tasted the sweetness of fasting, do not deprive yourself of it for the rest of the year, know that Allah legislated for  you the fast of Mondays and Thursdays, and the fast of three days of every month, and the best forms of fast is the fast of Prophet Daawud (David)-peace be upon him-who used to fast every other day. If you become incapacitated or preoccupied of observing these forms of fasting (as mentioned above) then try to overcome the fast of the six days of Shawwal for fasting them in addition to Ramadan equals one whole year of fasting. Abu Ayyoob (may Allaah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever fasts Ramadaan and follows it with six days of Shawwaal, it will be as if he fasted for a lifetime.” (Narrated by Muslim,)

Oh you who used to supplicate to your lord in Qunut (the dua made after rising from bowing in prayers) and at iftar (the time of breaking a fast) do not deprive yourself of supplication for the rest of the year, for surely supplication is worship as said by our Lord-the Most glorified:

وَقَالَ رَبُّكُمُ ٱدْعُونِىٓ أَسْتَجِبْ لَكُمْ ۚ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ عَنْ عِبَادَتِى سَيَدْخُلُونَ جَهَنَّمَ دَاخِرِينَ

“Your Lord has said, "Pray to Me, and I will respond to you. But those who are too proud to worship Me will enter Hell forcibly." (Al-Ghaafir:60)

The Prophet peace be upon him (also) said: “supplication is worship” (by Abu Daawud and At-Tirmidhi)

And just as supplication is one of the greatest forms of worship, it is also one of the great means of gaining pleasant things and preventing hateful events. It is the weapon of the believer and his provision in ease and hard times , due to this, He (Allah) commanded His servants to ask from Him and He encouraged them towards it and rewards them on that. The holy Prophet –may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him-said: “ He who does not ask from Allah, He gets angry with him.” thus Allah gets angry with His slave if he does not ask from Him due the completeness of His mercy with His servants and His awareness and knowledge of their intense need to Him.

Anytime you insistently supplicates to Allah, the more you get closer to Him and become more beloved to Him, unlike the human being; who gets disconcerted with many requests and gets bored with many insistence requests. One may be guided to a very generous person who will readily give him his request for the first, second and third but may get tired of him and may not respond to his quest for the fourth. As for Allah, He loves those who ask Him insistently and persistently and does not get upset with giving. Excellent indeed is the one who said:

Do not ask the child of Aadam a need

But ask the ONE whose’ doors does not close

Allah gets angry if you stop asking Him

But the child of Aadam when asked gets angry

Gear your supplication towards the LORD for surely,

It is in the bounties of our Lord that we always swims.

Hence, even though Ramadan has ended, but the deeds of the believer do not end except by death, Allah; the most High said the translation of which means:

And worship your Lord till the reality comes to you” (Al-Hijr:99) (reality here means death)

Worst indeed are a people who do not know their lord except in Ramadan, till the extent that it is as if they were worshipping Ramadan and not the Lord of Ramadan!! Allah does not accept from His servants that they become devout in ramadan by doing a lot of prostrations, bowing, observing humility and spending generously in charity and then when Ramadan elapses they change from being devout to being animalistic or satanic”.

Many people strives in worship in Ramadan by doing different types of worships and when Ramadan terminates, they abandon the Qur’an, become lackadaisical in obedience, abandoning the salaat in congregation,  and fasting and night prayers and then turned towards evil deeds, and then they destroy what they constructed, untied what they tied, and exchanged the lowed with that which is good and turned the favors of Allah into disbelief and ungratefulness, and becomes like her who unravels her yarn, breaking it into pieces after she has spun it strong. Due to this some predecessors used to say: be a devout servant and do not be Ramadan servant”

Oh our Lord we ask YOUR mercy with which: You forgive our sins , revive our hearts , purify our souls and guide us to that which is upright…Ameen
