The Quraish Enmity After Publicly Calling to Islam.

-   Narrated by Ibn Abbas (Allah be pleased with him): "When the Verse:–‘And warn your tribe of near-kindred' was revealed, the Prophet (PBUH) ascended the Safa (mountain) and started calling, “O thy morning! (a call in Arabic to draw attention). They (the people) said: Who is this? They gathered around him. He (PBUH) then said: "Suppose I told you that there is an (enemy) cavalry in the valley intending to attack you, would you believe me?” They said, “Yes, for we have not found you telling anything other than the truth.” He then said, “I am a warner to you in face of a terrific punishment.” Abu Lahab said (to the Prophet) “May your hands perish. Is it for this purpose you have gathered us!?” He then got up (and left). Then it was revealed: “Perish the hands of Abu Lahab (one of the Prophet’s uncles), and perish he! His wealth and his children will not profit him….” [Bukhari and Muslim]

-   Ibn `Abbas (Allah be pleased with the both of them) narrated that "The Messenger of Allah was praying (at the Maqam in ka'bah) when Abu Jahl came and said: "Haven't I prohibited you from this? Haven't I prohibited you from this?" He threatened the Prophet and thus, the Messenger of Allah became angry with him and reprimanded him. Then he said: "You know too well that I have the most kinsmen of this valley with me in the large." Then Allah revealed: "(Then let him call upon his council. We will call out the guards of Hell!)'' Ibn `Abbas then said, "By Allah. If he had called his people, the angels of torment would have seized him at that very instant." [Tirmidhi and Albani said it is sound]

-   Narrated by Ibn Mas'ud (Allah be pleased with him) that Once the Prophet (PBUH) was offering prayers at the Ka'ba and a group of Quraish people were seated in their gathering watching. One of them said: "Can't you all see this show-off? Who amongst you will bring the abdominal contents (intestines, etc.) of a camel of Bani so and so and put it on the back of Muhammad, when he prostrates?" The most unfortunate of them got up and brought it. He waited till the Prophet prostrated and then placed it on his back between his shoulders. The prophet (PBUH) remained in prostration while they laughed and laughed until they fell against one another in laughter. Allah's Apostle was in prostration and he did not lift his head up till someone went to Fatimah (Allah be pleased with her) who was a little girl then. She came rushing, threw that (camel's abdominal contents) away from his back and started insulting them. After the prophet (PBUH) had finished his prayers, he said thrice: "O Allah! Punish Quraish." He then said: "O Allah! Punish Abu Jahl, 'Utba bin Rabi'a, Shaiba bin Rabi'a, Al-Walid bin 'Utba, Umaiya bin Khalaf, 'Uqba bin Abi Mu'it and 'Ammarah bin al-Waleed." Abdullah said: "By Allah! I saw them all dead and their bodies dragged to the Qalib (one of the wells) of Badr. And then the prophet (PBUH) said: "O Allah! May You send forth your curse upon the people in the Qulib." [Bukhari]

-   'Urwa bin az-Zubair narrated saying: I asked 'Abdullah bin 'Amr bin al-'As: "What was the worst thing the pagans did to Allah's Apostle (PBUH)?" He said, "I saw 'Uqba bin Abi Mu'ait coming to the Prophet (PBUH) while he was praying at the Ka'bah. 'Uqba put his sheet round the Prophet's neck and squeezed it very severely. Abu Bakr came and pulled 'Uqba away from the Prophet (PBUH) and said, "Do you intend to kill a man just because he says: 'My Lord is Allah, and he has brought forth to you the Evident Signs from your Lord?" [Bukhari]

-   Narrated from Ibn ‘Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and his father), who said: “When the words ‘Perish the two hands of Abu Lahab’ were revealed, the wife of Abu Lahab came when the Messenger of Allah  (PBUH) was with Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him). Abu Bakr said to him (PBUH), ‘O Messenger of Allah (PBUH)! She is going to harm you". The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: ‘There will be a barrier between me and her.’ He said: "She came and did not see him (PBUH)." She then said to Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him): ‘O Abu Bakr, your companion has lampooned us.’ Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: ‘No, by Allah, he has not read poem and he does not compose it.’ She said, ‘You are speaking the truth.’ When she went away, Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: ‘O Messenger of Allah! She did not see you.’ He (PBUH) said: ‘An angel was between me and her, covering me until she went away.’ [Ibn Hibban, and Arna'ut said it is authentic by the strength of many other chains of narration]

-   Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with them) reported that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "I have been frightened in the cause of Allah as no one else has been, and have been harmed in the cause of Allah as no one else has been, and have spent thirty days and nights with Bilal when we had nothing to eat except what Bilal could hide under his armpit." [At-Tirmidhi, and Albani said it is saheeh] Tirmidhi explained the hadith to mean that while the prophet (PBUH) was migrating to Madinah in secret with Bilal, they had nothing of food with them except the little that Bilal could hide under his armpit.
