All the praises and thanks be to Allah and may the special salutations of Allah be upon the best of humanity; Prophet Muhammad, his family and all companions.

Indeed, issues about the Day of Resurrection are among issues of unseen which a Muslim must believe in exactly as reported by the Glorious Qur'an and the authentic traditions of our beloved Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Day of Resurrection is among the realities ahead of man whose exact time of occurrence is only known to Allah; the All Knowledgeable. Below is a brief description of the events and categories of people on that Day of great sorrow and distress when a party of mankind will be heading towards paradise and others towards hell (May Allah save us from hell).

Nearing the end of time, the trumpet will be blown and creation will cease to exist. God, Almighty, says:{Translation of meaning}

"And the Trumpet will be blown, and all who are in the heavens and all who are on the earth will swoon away, except him whom God wills.” (Quran 39:68

It will be blown a second blowing, and all creation from the beginning of time till the end of time will be resurrected. God, the Exalted, tells us:

"And the Trumpet will be blown (i.e. the second blowing) and behold! From the graves they will come out quickly to their Lord.” (Quran 36:51

People will be standing naked, barefooted and uncircumcised. The Prophet described to us what will happen, he said: “You will be gathered, barefooted, naked, and uncircumcised" as Allah says:" As We began the first creation, We shall repeat it.” (Quran 21:104)

The first human being to be dressed on the Day of Resurrection will be Prophet Abraham, may the mercy and blessings of Allah be upon him.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari). Aishah, the Mother of the Believers, exclaimed “Men and women both! Won’t they all look at each other?” The Prophet said:" The situation they are in is so grim that they would have no time for this!” (Sahih Muslim).

As humankind awaits the decree of Almighty God, they would be standing under the sun, which would be brought close to them. Al-Miqdad b. al-Aswad, one of the Companions, said: ‘I heard the Messenger of Allah saying:" The sun will be a distance of a mile from the creation on the Day of Resurrection. People will sink in their perspiration according to their deeds. Some would sink in their perspiration till their ankles, while others would sink in it to their thighs and waists; yet others, would sink in it till their mouths"((Saheeh Muslim)

If anyone of us, today, was to sweat on a sunny day, they would not be able to wait to hit the showers… the Day of Resurrection will be 50 000 years long. The Prophet said:" That day will be 50 000 years long, after which a person will be admitted into Paradise or cast into Hell.” (Abu Dawood)

Peoples’ hearts will be pounding, not knowing what would become of them. God describes to us the horrors of that day. He says:(meaning)

On the Day you see it every nursing mother will be distracted from that [child] she was nursing, and every pregnant woman will abort her pregnancy, and you will see the people [appearing] intoxicated while they are not intoxicated; but the punishment of Allah is severe.” (Quran 22:2).

Even the believers who believed in truth will be severely worried. God says that which means:

" And they who give what they give while their hearts are fearful because they will be returning to their Lord(Quran 23:60)

Aishah, May Allah be pleased with her, said: “Are they those who drink liquor, and steal?” The Prophet answered:" No, Aishah, they are the ones who fast, pray and give out in charity, but are fearful that their deeds would not be accepted from them(Saheeh Muslim){source: "Abdurrahman Murad(2008 IslamReligion.com)"

Categories of people on the Day of Hashr.

In what state will the people be on Yawm al-Hashr`? They will differ, no doubt in terms of appearance, state of mind and rank. Imam al-Bayhaqi quoted this hadeeth narrated from Abu Sufyan from Jabir, who said that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam said, "Each person will be resurrected in the state in which he died." (An-Nihaayah by Ibn Kathir).

The people will be raised according to the state in which they died - in either iman or kufr. `Abdullah ibn `Umar said, "I hear the Messenger of Allah sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam say, 'When Allah wants to punish a people, the punishment befalls whoever is among them, then they will be resurrected according to their deeds.'" (Muslim). For example, the man who betrays (that is, makes a promise and then does not fulfil it) for example, will have a banner at his backside, exposing his sin. "For every betrayer, a banner will be raised at his backside on the Day of Resurrection." (Muslim) The one who died upon righteousness will, similarly, be raised upon goodness. For example, there was a man who was in ihram when he was thrown off his camel to his death. The Prophet sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam said, "Wash him with water and lotus flowers and shroud him in his two garments; do not anoint him with perfume or cover his head for on the Day of Resurrection, he will be raised reciting the Talbiyah." (Bukhari, Muslim & Ahmad

The disbelievers will be in a state of utter humiliation. Where once they scorned at Allah, His commands and His Prophets, they will be in absolute degradation on the Day of Judgement. Allah says:{Translation of meaning}

"So (O Muhammad) withdraw from them. The Day that the caller will call (them) to a terrible thing. They will come forth with humbled eyes from (their) graves as if they were locusts spread broad, hastening towards the caller. The disbelievers will say, 'This is a hard Day.'" (Surah al-Qamar 54:6-8)

Allah further describes their lowly state:{Translation of meaning}

 "The Day when they will come out of their graves quickly as racing to a goal, with their eyes lowered in fear and humility, ignominy covering them (all over)! That is the Day which they were promised." (Suran al-Ma'aarij 70:43-44)

They will be practically paralyzed with fear and panic for it is evident that they will meet with their doom. Allah says:

"Consider not that Allah is unaware of that which the Dhaalimoon do but He gives them respite up to a Day when the eyes will stare in horror. (They will be) hastening forward with necks outstretched, their heads raised up (towards the sky), their gaze returning not towards them and their hearts empty (from thinking because of extreme fear)." (Surah Ibrahim 14:42-43))

The fact that they have no one to turn to for help and that there is no escape or respite will only increase their terror. "And warn them (O Muhammad) of the Day that is drawing near, when the hearts will be choking the throats and they can neither return them (hearts) to their chests nor can they throw them out. There will be no friend, nor an intercessor for the Dhaalimoon who could be given heed to." (Surah Ghaafir 40:18).

Abu Hurayrah radhiallahu anhu that the Messenger of Allah stood among us one day and mentioned ghulool (stealing from the booty before its distribution) and how serious this matter is. Then he said, "I do not want to see any of you coming on the Day of Resurrection with a bellowing camel on his shoulders saying, 'O Messenger of Allah, help me' and I will say to him, 'I cannot do anything for you. I conveyed the message to you. I do not want to see any of you coming on the Day of Resurrection with a neighing horse on his shoulders saying, 'O Messenger of Allah, help me' and I will say to him, 'I cannot do anything for you. I conveyed the message to you. I do not want to see any of you coming on the Day of Resurrection with a bleating sheep on his shoulders saying, 'O Messenger of Allah, help me' and I will say to him, 'I cannot do anything for you. I conveyed the message to you. I do not want to see any of you coming on the Day of Resurrection with a screaming soul on his shoulders saying, 'O Messenger of Allah, help me' and I will say to him, 'I cannot do anything for you. I conveyed the message to you;  I do not want to see any of you coming on the Day of Resurrection with a flapping banner on his head saying, 'O Messenger of Allah, help me' and I will say to him, 'I cannot do anything for you. I conveyed the message to you;  I do not want to see any of you coming on the Day of Resurrection with gold and silver on his shoulders saying, 'O Messenger of Allah, help me' and I will say to him, 'I cannot do anything for you. I conveyed the message to you."(Muslim){Source: http://www.imaan.net}/
