Qataada (may Allah be please with him) used to teach the Qur’an in the month of Ramadan. Imam Zuhri used to say when the month of Ramadan begins: “indeed, this is for the recitation of the Qur’an and feeding of people”

Ibn Abdul-Hakam said: “Imam Maalik used to abandoned   the reading of Hadiths and the accompany of the people of knowledge and turn towards the recitation of the Qur’an from the mushaf(book). Abdur-Razzaq says: “ Sufyaan ath-Thawri used to abandoned all forms of (nawaafil) worships in Ramadan and turn towards the recitation of the Qur’an. Aesha (may Allah be please with her used to recite the Qur’an from the book in the beginning of the day in the month of Ramadan when the sun appears she goes to sleep.

The salaf high determination in the recitation of the Qur’an and completing its recitation for more than once in a wonderful manner.

Imam Ibn Rajab (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned :” the salaf used to recite the Qur’an in the month of Ramadan in prayers and outside it.  Aswad Ibn Yazeed used to recite the Qur’an in every two nights of Ramadan, and Ibrahim An-Nakha’e used to do the same in the last ten days and in three days in the other days of Ramadan.  Qataada used to complete the recitation of the Qur’an in every seven(7) days  throughout the year and in Ramadan in every three(3) days, and nightly in the last ten days. Ash-Shafi’ee used to make sixty (60) completion of the Qur’an which he recites outside of salaah, and the same was said about Abu Hanafi.

After mentioning these reports, Ibn Rajab (may Allah have mercy on him) said: “the prohibition of reciting the Qur’an in less than three days is only on a habitual manner, but in preferred seasons such as the month of Ramadan, and especially in the nights where the night of decree is sought, or in preferred places such as Makkah for non-residents of it, excessive recitation of the Qur’an is encouraged to benefit from the place and the time, and that was also reported of Ahmad, Ishaq and other than them both from among the four Imams and that is apparent of from the deeds of others besides them as previously mentioned.

Muhammad Ibn Mas’ar said: “my father will never sleep until he recites half of the Qur’an’.

Ibn Wahb said: “ imam Maalik's sister was asked: “ what was the work of Maalik at home? She replied: “recitation of the Qur’an”

Umar Ibn Ali said: Yahya ibn Saeed Al-Qattaan used to complete the Qur’an every night and used to pray for a thousand people, he will then go out after asr and talk to the people.

Al-Bagawi said: “ I was informed of my grandfather ; Ahmad Ibn Munii’e, that he said: “ for forty years I complete (the Qur’an) in every three days”.

Sulaimaan ibn Yassaar said: “ Uthmaan  Ibn Affaan (may Allah be please with him)woke up after Isha a prayers and recited the complete Qur’an in one raka’at; he never prayed before it or after it”

Ibn Siireen said: “Tamiim ad-Daarii used to recite the Qur’an in one raka’at”.
