All praises and thanks are due and belong to Allah Alone without associate nor partner. I implore His special salutations upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad, his family and all companions.

The Divinity of Allah forms the core and the most important aspect of Islamic monotheism. Due to it all messengers were sent and through it salvation is assured both in this world and the hereafter. It is also the type of tawheed (oneness of Allah) wherein many have deviated and went astray. Due to its important, the scholars of the saved sect (Ahlus-Suunah) took much pain to detailedly explain it in the context of the Glorious Qur’an and the sunnah. Among such scholars whose works in this field is unparalleled is Imam Ahmad Ibn Hanbal As-Shaibaani (may Allah have mercy on him)

Ahmad Ibn Hanbal was the founder of one of the four main Sunni schools of Jurisprudence. He developed fiqh but was also an expert in the study of Islamic oral traditions (the sayings - hadith). He famously and heroically held true to the true beliefs of Islam despite the vehement opposition from the corrupt rulers of his time. In fact, his biography especially with the rulers of his time points that Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal was a model of courage and honesty who cared little for worldly comforts and luxuries.

Below shall be an epitome of his sayings on Allah’s divinity, which stands unique in the structure of the Islamic belief of Monotheism (tawheed).

1-indeed Allah; the Most High is One and not from numerals, fragmentation is not befitting to Him nor division. He is One from all directions while other than Him is one from one side and not other sides. He is attributed with what is mentioned in the revelation(Qur’an&Sunna) and Ijmaa’ (consensus), and that is the evidence of His existence. (the book: Aqeedatu-al-Imam Ahmad Ibn Hambal)

He said again: whoever says that Allah was not characterized (with Oneness) until He was described (as One) by the servants has gone out of the religion (previous source).

It was also established of him that; Allah is the most Powerful, The Living, The All-Knowledgeable and he recited:

هُوَ ٱلْحَىُّ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ فَٱدْعُوهُ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ ٱلدِّينَ ۗ ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ

He is the Living One. There is no god except He. So pray to Him, devoting your religion to Him. Praise be to God, the Lord of the Worlds.”( Al-Ghaafir : 65)

Ibn Abi Ya’laa reported that Imam Ahmad said: “among the best characteristics of Imaan (faith) is to love for Allah’s sake and to hate for His sake” ( Tabaqaat al-Hanaabilah)

In his rebuttal against the Jahmiyya and the Zanaadiqa, Imam Ahmad cited the following verse:

وَرُدُّوٓا۟ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ مَوْلَىٰهُمُ ٱلْحَقِّ ۖ

“…and they will be returned to God, their True Master;” ( Yunus :10), then said: thus in the world are false masters (Ar-baab-false masters obeyed besides Allah) which was doubted by the Zanaadiqa (  shazawaat al-Balaatin pp: 11. Volume:1). Imam Ahmad thus pointed out here that, there are false masters taken by the polytheists besides Allah, they turn to them in times of need and offer to them worships and sacrifices.
