All praise belongs to Allah, the One, the First, the Singular, the Independent – He who neither begets nor is begotten, and there is none like unto Him. O Allah, grant Your peace and blessings upon Muhammad and upon his family, companions, followers and supporters.

The emergence of the Beast is a sign among the major signs of the Hour (Day of Judgment). It will speak to people (the unjust), telling them they did not believe with certainty in the Divine Signs, and this is an evidence of Allah's greatness, because beasts do not understand nor speak, but this beast will be one of paranormal habits that prove to people that it is a great sign from Allah. This is mentioned in the Qur'an, Allah Almighty says:

"وَإِذَا وَقَعَ الْقَوْلُ عَلَيْهِمْ أَخْرَجْنَا لَهُمْ دَابَّةً مِّنَ الْأَرْضِ تُكَلِّمُهُمْ أَنَّ النَّاسَ كَانُوا بِآيَاتِنَا لَا يُوقِنُونَ" (النمل: 82)

Translation: "And when the Word (of torment) is fulfilled against them, We shall bring out from the earth a beast to them, which will speak to them because mankind believed not with certainty in Our Ayat (Verses of the Quran and Prophet Muhammad SAW)." (27:82)

Ibn Kathir, in the interpretation of this verse, said:" It will emerge at the end of time before the Day of Judgment, when mankind become corrupt, neglect the commands of Allah and change the true religion. Then Allah will cause a beast to emerge from the earth. It was said that it will be brought from Makkah, or from somewhere else, and it will speak to people about matters. Ibn `Abbas, Al-Hasan, Qatadah and a narration from `Ali, May Allah be pleased with him, that it will speak words, meaning, it will address them."

In light of the Hadith, Hudhaifa b. Usaid al-Ghifari reported:

"Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) came to us all of a sudden as we were (busy in a discussion). He said: What do you discuss about? They (the Companions) said. We are discussing about the Last Hour. Thereupon he said: It will not come until you see ten signs before and (in this connection) he made a mention of the smoke, Dajjal, the beast, the rising of the sun from the west, the descent of Jesus son of Mary (Allah be pleased with him), the Gog and Magog, and land-slides in three places, one in the east, one in the west and one in Arabia at the end of which fire would burn forth from the Yemen, and would drive people to the place of their assembly." (Sahih Muslim)

Also, in his Sahih, Muslim also recorded that Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, said that the Prophet said: "Hasten to do good deeds before six things appear: the Dajjal; the smoke; the beast of the earth; the rising of the sun from the west; and the (death of one of your favorite) or general affliction."

As it is seen, when the beast emerges, people will start to believe and repent, but to no avail anymore because Allah Almighty will not accept the repentance of anyone after the emergence of the major signs.

It is narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him ) said: When three things appear, faith will not benefit one who has not previously believed or has derived no good from his faith: the rising of the sun in its place of setting, the Dajjal, and the beast of the earth." (Sahih Muslim)

It has not been established in the Qur'an nor Sunnah an explicit description of the beast. The only description mentioned in the Qur'an that it will speak to people and mark the believers and the disbelievers. However, below are some Da'if "weak" Hadiths and reports of some Salaf  that mentioned its description and mission:

It was recorded by Ibn Majah. Ibn Jurayj reported that Ibn Az-Zubayr described the beast and said, "Its head is like the head of a bull, its eyes are like the eyes of a pig, its ears are like the ears of an elephant, its horns are like the horns of a stag, its neck is like the neck of an ostrich, its chest is like the chest of a lion, its color is like the color of a tiger, its haunches are like the haunches of a cat, its tail is like the tail of a ram, and its legs are like the legs of a camel. Between each pair of its joints is a distance of twelve cubits. It will bring out with it the staff of Musa and the ring of Suleiman. There will be no believer left without it making a white spot on his face, which will spread until all his face is shining white as a result; and there will be no disbeliever left without it making a black spot on his face, which will spread until all his face is black as a result, then when the people trade with one another in the marketplace, they will say, `How much is this, O believer' `How much is this, O disbeliever' And when the members of one household sit down together to eat, they will know who is a believer and who is a disbeliever. Then the beast will say: `O so-and-so, enjoy yourself, for you are among the people of Paradise.' And it will say: `O so-and-so, you are among the people of Hell,' "

Therefore, its mission is to distinguish believers from unbelievers. Abu Hurairah also narrated it that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "A beast will emerge from the earth. With it shall be the ring of Suleiman and the staff of Musa. It will brighten the face of the believer, and stamp the nose of the disbeliever with the ring, such that when the people gather to eat, it will be said to this one: 'O believer! And to that one: 'O disbeliever!'"  (Da'if / Jami` at-Tirmidhi)

However, Allah generally mentioned the emergence of the beast , and our duty is to completely believe in the emergence of the beast at the end of time as mentioned in the Qur'an and Sahih (authentic or sound) Hadiths,  regardless its description or mission, because this falls within the belief in the Day of Judgment, and Allah knows best.

"O Allah, protect us from Your punishment on the Day you raise up Your slaves."
