Trial / Affliction is a Divine Nature.

As the manufacturer knows the machine he made better than anyone, and the builder of the house knows it better than any other person, Allah also knows his Creation better anyone else. Allah said:

{Does He who created not know, while He is the Subtle, the Acquainted?} (Qur’an 67:14).

In fact, the maker of a machine, or the builder, even though he may know what he made or constructed, many things of his work can be hidden to him, such as its characteristics and components, its durability and outcome, and its un-expectations and defects.

As for Allah, He has knowledge of everything, and has counted everything in numbers, and gave everything its form and then guided it, and He has the creation and the command both in this life and the Hereafter, nothing is hidden to Him, and He knows both the apparent and unapparent of all matters, and He knows His creation more than they know themselves. Allah said in the Qur’an:

{Say, are you more knowing or is Allah?} (Qur’an 2:140).

{And mankind have not been given of knowledge except a little.} (Qur’an 17:85).

{Allah knows and you do not know.} (Qur’an 16:74).

Since Allah the Almighty is the one who created us and created the whole world around us, He had told us in His Glorious Book that he did not created us in vain, and He did not leave us purposeless, but He created us so that He will try us, as He the Almighty said in the Qur'an:

{Indeed, We created man from a sperm-drop mixture that We may try him; and We made for him hearing and sight.} (Qur’an 76:2).

The verse shows that human being was only created for trials and test, and his Lord tests him to distinguish between the patient and appreciating ones from the impatient and ungrateful ones, the sincere believer from the hypocrites, the strong believer from the weak believer, and those who monitor themselves they fear Allah and are hopeful to Allah for reward from those who are not hopeful to His reward and do not fear His punishment and do not dignify Him.

So, He the Almighty created us for a great purpose, and a great wisdom, which is to obey Him and to be sincere in worshiping Him alone. Allah said in the Qur’an:

{And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me.} (Qur’an 51:56).

He Allah also said in the Qur’an:

{Say, "Indeed, my prayer, my rites of sacrifice, my living and my dying are for Allah, Lord of the worlds (163) No partner has He. And this I have been commanded, and I am the first [among you] of the Muslims."} (Qur’an 6:162-163).

But this obedience cannot be actualized and show out except through trials with types of goodness and evil, the trial is not the target in itself, but because of the achievement of obedience or not depends on it, and its strength or weakness, this is why Allah the Almighty said in the Qur'an:

{And We test you with evil and with good as trial; and to Us you will be returned.} (Qur’an 21:35).

So, Allah the Almighty made it clear that he tries his slaves with good and evil, and with what they love and hate, as a test for them, and a purification of their faith, and as a disclosure of their true origin. For affliction is the bellows of the heart, and the instrument of test, and the measurement of faith, through which the truthful is distinguished from the liar, the devoted from the wicked, the believer from the infidel, and the pure from the mischievous. And by it the believers are divided into many sections, and into different ranks base on their faith and jihad, and their thankfulness and patience

{And for all are degrees from what they have done. And your Lord is not unaware of what they do.} (Qur’an 6:132).

Allah also said in the Qur’an:

{They are [varying] degrees in the sight of Allah, and Allah is Seeing of whatever they do.} (Qur’an 3:163).

Allah has condemned anyone who thinks that he will be free from trials and tests, and claiming that he has faith. He Allah said in the Qur'an:

{Do the people think that they will be left to say, "We believe" and they will not be tried?} (Qur’an 29:2), ie: Do they think that they will not be tested in their faith? And that they will be left on their mere claim with no test and trial? Afflictions on faith is an ongoing nature, and a fixed reality, which is a usual thing from Allah in both the earlier and the later people.

To be continued, insha Allah…
