The Rite of Fasting is an Introduction to Hajj to the Sacred House of Allah.

In this article, we will state the virtues of offering fasting before Hajj and the wisdom of connecting the two acts of worship with the bond of piety, especially since the pilgrim needs a certain provision to strengthen him for the burdens of Hajj. Here we try to point out that the benefits and good fortunes of fasting does not stop on the pilgrims alone; rather, its benefits and its reward are fully undiminished for every fasting Muslim. For this, it is the duty of the pilgrim in this holy month to prepare himself to get into this rite which needs more provision of Taqwa than other acts of worship.

Ramadan shortly before the Hajj:

The Almighty's wisdom would be reflected in the connection between the two ritual acts of worship with the link of piety. Allah says by explaining the supreme goal and the ideal purpose in the legislation of fasting:

{O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous}. (Al-Baqarah: 183).

In the rite of Hajj, He says:

{And take provisions, but indeed, the best provision is fear of Allah. And fear Me, O you of understanding}. (Al-Baqarah: 197).

The connection between the two rites is that Ramadan is a prelude to Hajj. The pilgrim who has fasted Ramadan with faith and the intention of seeking reward from Allah, and get himself used to the piety of Allah by abstaining from obscenity,  disobedience, disputation and other obscene ethic acts, and purify himself by doing good acts like fasting, Qiyaamu-l-layl and reading of the Qur'an has made provisions for his Hajj, and has come out of Ramadan by decorating himself with the piety of Allah. Then, he becomes delighted with the two rites, and received the reward their abundantly, and come out of Ramadan by becoming enlightened by the light of fasting and the Qur'an, and remained pure in the holy land by giving regards to the rite of Hajj as Allah says:

{That [is so]. And whoever honors the symbols of Allah - indeed, it is from the piety of hearts}. (Hajj: 32).

So, he will receive the favor of Allah that  He has conferred upon the righteous slaves, which is His forgiveness, and return from his Hajj pure and free from sin as he was the day on which his mother gave birth to him.

It is narrated in Sahih Al-Bukhaari from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the prophet (peace be upon him) said:

[When any one of you is fasting on a day, he should neither indulge in obscene language, nor raise the voice; or if anyone reviles him or tries to quarrel with him he should say: I am a person fasting]. (Al-Bukhaari, No:1151).

Similarly, Allah says on Hajj:

{There is [to be for him] no sexual relations and no disobedience and no disputing during Hajj}. (Al-Bakorah:197).

It is narrated on the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the prophet (peace be upon him) said:

[Whoever performs Hajj (pilgrimage) and does not have sexual relations (with his wife), nor commits sin, nor disputes unjustly (during Hajj), then he returns from Hajj as pure and free from sins as on the day on which his mother gave birth to him]. (Al-Bukhaari, and Muslim).

The piety of Allah with fasting and Hajj wipe off the sins, purify the heart, and earn the aim of Allah in this worldly life which is good life. Allah says:

{And whoever fears Allah - He will remove for him his misdeeds and make great for him his reward}. (At-talaq:5).

We pray to Allah give us Taqwa and make us successful both in this life and the next.
