Great Charities Affordable by Every Muslim.

In the name of Allah, the most Gracious, the most Merciful. May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon our beloved Prophet Mohammad, his companions and his household.

Charity is very important in the life of the Muslim. It is one of the best forms of worship and the third pillar of Islam. It helps free the Muslim from Allah's anger as it also serve as a cure of sicknesses and ailments. It also serves as a forgiveness of sins. The benefits and advantages are numerous.

Many people are with the understanding that charity is only based on money and wealth and that only those who are blessed with wealth can give out charities. Well in the following paragraphs we will understand that charity is broader than that. Our characters, conducts and behaviors towards others can serve as charities. Rather, they are considered to be the best form of charities, especially when they are done with sincerity.

It was reported that Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

[Your smiling in the face of your brother is charity, commanding good and forbidding evil is charity, your giving directions to a man lost in the land is charity for you. Your seeing for a man with bad sight is a charity for you, your removal of a rock, a thorn or a bone from the road is charity for you. Your pouring what remains from your bucket into the bucket of your brother is charity for you.] (Jami` at-Tirmidhi, Vol. 4, Book 1, Hadith 1956).

In the above Hadeeth, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) mentioned Six important issues which are considered as charities and are rewarded for greatly. And above all, these issues are affordable by anyone, be you rich or poor, weak or strong, sick or healthy. These issues are as follows:

1/ Smiling in the face of your brother:

The word "brother" in the above Hadeeth means the Islamic brother. So, smiling to him serves as a charity because you get reward for it. And gives him pleasure as it gladdens and cleans the heart. It also brings their hearts together.

2/ Commanding good and forbidding evil:

Also, telling others to do the good things recommended by Allah and advising them to stop ill and wrongdoings, also serves as charity for the one who gives the advice and to the one that is advised.

3/ Giving directions to a man lost in the land:

Directing a lost person to find his way or the road he has missed also serves as a charity. It can also mean teaching someone about Islam in a land or society where there are no proper or qualified Islamic teachers.

4/ Seeing for a man with bad sight:

Holding the hand of a blind person or a person who cannot see clear  and directing him to his destination is also considered as a charity.

5/ Removal of a rock, a thorn or a bone from the road:

Getting rid of stones, thorns or bones or anything that hurts people on the road is a charity for you. This is the list work one can do but it has a great reward. Allah has forgiven the sins of a man who removed a stick of thorns on the road. This act is also considered to be one of the portions of Faith (Eman).

6/ Pouring what remains from your bucket into the bucket of your brother:

Giving water and food from what you have to those in need of them is also a charity for you.

By knowing these issues, you will realize that Allah has provided us with so many types of charities, so that not only the rich can benefit from these blessings, but even the poorest of all people can afford to do them due to their easiness, and as a result benefit from their abundant reward.
